This month we sat down with our new Conveyancer, Mollie Lancaster, to find out more about her career journey so far, her goals here at Mason Thomas Law, and a few fun facts you might not expect…
What will your role be here, and what are you most looking forward to?
I’m working as a Conveyancer, supporting clients across a wide range of transactions. Up until working here, my work was mainly focused on freehold purchases, so I’m really looking forward to expanding my knowledge into leaseholds, new builds, and more complex matters. I’m especially excited about becoming more hands-on and client-facing, I love building those relationships and guiding people through what’s often one of the biggest steps they’ll ever take.
Are there any particular goals or projects you’re excited to take on?
One of my big goals is to start and complete my Level 6 CLC qualification, and I feel really supported to do that here. I’m also keen to keep developing my skills so I can provide even more value to our clients, especially in areas I haven’t had as much exposure to before.
What experience or strengths do you bring to this role?
I’ve worked in property law for over a decade, starting out as a business admin apprentice and working my way up through legal secretary and conveyancing assistant roles before qualifying with my Level 4 CLC. That means I’ve seen transactions from every angle, which helps me anticipate issues and really understand the process from start to finish. I’d say my biggest strengths are being client-focused, adaptable, and always ready to learn.
How do you see yourself contributing to the team or company’s mission?
I think my practical experience and drive to keep progressing fit really well with Mason Thomas Law’s ethos. For me, it’s all about making things as smooth as possible for clients, while also supporting the team wherever I can.
What has stood out to you about the company so far?
Definitely the culture. Everyone here is so approachable and collaborative. Cathy and Jo have such a wealth of experience and are both fantastic with clients, which really sets the tone for the firm. And of course, the fact that we’re an all-female team – that’s pretty amazing!
What do you like most about your role?
No two transactions are the same, and I love that variety. I also really enjoy problem-solving, helping a client overcome a hurdle and seeing the deal complete is such a satisfying feeling.
Why do you think Mason Thomas Law stands out in the property law field?
It’s the niche specialism. The firm is solely focused on property law, which means the expertise is second to none. Clients know they’re in safe hands, and I think that’s a big reason why Mason Thomas Law has such a strong reputation.
If you hadn’t chosen this career path, what do you think you’d be doing instead?
Probably an air hostess. I’ve always loved the idea of travelling the world and experiencing new places.
How do you start your day?
With a cup of coffee and the gym (most days) otherwise it’s a cup of Yorkshire tea and cuddle with the cat.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
I’m into weight training at the gym with some cardio thrown in. I also love going for long walks when the weathers nice, and going out for food.
What would we be surprised to discover about you?
I did a 14,000ft sky dive in Australia (tandem of course).
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
I’d love to learn to dance, especially salsa. Would also like to learn another language, maybe Portuguese.
What’s your idea of the perfect weekend?
Getting away from it all – ideally somewhere warm, I would catch a flight for a weekend somewhere. I also like camping (weather depending of course!)
What would be your dream travel destination?
Asia is top of my list. I’d love to spend extended time there. By the time I’m 40, my dream would be to emigrate somewhere warm and sunny.
Tea or coffee?
If I had to choose, it would be tea but it has to be Yorkshire.
