Get to know Cathy a little better with this Q & A.
What is the best thing about working for Mason Thomas Law?
It has to be my colleagues, we work very hard, but have a good laugh whilst doing so.
What motivates you at work?
Building a business from the ground up is not easy, but watching the business and my colleagues go from strength to strength as the months (and now years) tick by is very motivating.
What gives you the greatest satisfaction in your role?
Overcoming problems by finding solutions and getting to the end of a difficult transaction to provide the desired result for clients.
What do you like most about your role?
I love that I can drive the business forward without unnecessary bureaucracy that exists in larger firms. I speak plainly, and client’s like it!
What’s your favourite memory working at Mason Thomas Law?
We have recently been shortlisted for the excellence in customer service award by Barnsley and Rotherham Chamber, which is pretty high up on the list!
Why do you think Mason Thomas Law stands out in the property law field?
We are very commercial in our outlook. We don’t quote the law at clients, we work with them to interpret it and come up with practical solutions, and pride ourselves on providing customer service that is second to none.
If you hadn’t chosen this career path, what do you think you would be doing instead?
I would be a psychologist I think, I had accepted an offer of a place at the University of Liverpool to do a psychology degree and changed to Law on the day I got my Level results!
How do you start your day?
With a big cup of tea!
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
If I am not running around after my children, I can usually be found sipping a G&T somewhere with family or friends.
Who inspires you and why?
It has to be my parents, they built a successful business from scratch when they were younger, and managed to stay together, despite the stress of working together!
What would we be surprised to discover about you?
I used to be obsessed with horse riding and had my own horse for years, I wish I had the time to get back into it!
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
Scuba dive.
What is your idea of the perfect weekend?
We have a family holiday home in Stamford, and I love escaping the jobs in the house and going there for the weekend.
What would be your dream travel destination?
At the moment, I love going anywhere where I can relax by a pool in the sun and have a break. California, Canada and New Orleans are on my bucket list.
Do you have any children or pets?
I have 2 children – Ella who is 13, and Hattie who is 9. We also have a 2 dogs – Mary and Nellie and 2 guinea pigs – Poppins and Ginny.
What’s the best book you’ve ever read?
This is a difficult one, I loved the Time Traveller’s Wife. I tend to read easy read books without much of a plot, to try to switch off from work, just before going to sleep.
Tea or coffee?
Tea, unless it’s from a posh coffee shop, then it’s milky coffee all the way!
