Successful pension fund property sale for Mason Thomas Law

Mason Thomas Law has completed another successful commercial property sale.

Acting on behalf of client Chris Kershaw, solicitor Candice Birch negotiated the sale of three industrial units at Derby Road Business Park in Clay Cross, Chesterfield.

The 11,893 sq. ft of industrial space was owned by Mr Kershaw’s pension fund. He ran his own business, Kershaw International Limited, from the space until his retirement in 1997. The business, which cleaned crude oil, natural gas and petrochemical pipelines, was sold to British Gas who subsequently moved it to Scotland in 1999.

Following the relocation of the business, the property was split into three separate units, ranging in size from 2,880 sq. ft – 5,311 sq. ft. and rented to individual tenants. The units were sold to the new purchaser with tenants in place.

As the units were owned by the pension fund the sale was not quite as straightforward as everyone would have liked.

Mr Kershaw explained: “The buyer’s solicitor wanted a lot of background information which we had not expected, but we were able to sort through old records and find everything they wanted. I was very, very impressed with how Candice handled it. She made the process as smooth as it possibly could be.”
