Meet….Stuart Hattersley, founder of Sheffield Kitchen Outlet (SKO)

Stuart Hattersley is a founder of Sheffield Kitchen Outlet Ltd (SKO), a successful business he established with his brother Daniel 21 years ago.

A proud Sheffield business, SKO began as a trade only manufacturer on Carlisle St East in Sheffield. The business has grown substantially to now design and install kitchens and bedrooms to domestic, business, and trade customers across Yorkshire.

The growth of SKO has seen Stuart and his brother purchase, sell, refinance and lease numerous properties across Yorkshire; something which Cathy Thomas has been supporting Stuart with for a number of years.

During her career, Cathy has provided invaluable advice to Stuart, including advising him on the purchase of a 15,000 sq. ft unit in Sheffield, and leasing a 3,000 sq. ft facility in Leeds in 2018. This longstanding partnership has been instrumental in the growth and success of SKO

The property law expertise and responsiveness of Cathy and the Mason Thomas Law team is valued by Stuart. He said: “Cathy is really responsive. She’s straight talking. She knows the process inside out, gets on with it and gets it done quickly.

“Out of all the conveyancing firms I have worked with, Mason Thomas Law is definitely the easiest to work with.”

Cathy and her team have supported Stuart through numerous residential and commercial property transactions, including the purchase of his current home.

A standout deal included the lease renewal of Sheffield Kitchen Outlet’s showroom at Hillsborough Trade Point in 2024. This renewal secured 11 jobs and led to a £500,000 investment at the site.

In 2025 Mason Thomas Law also facilitated a remortgage deal for Stuart on his own home, as well as a commercial remortgage on a property Cathy helped him purchase back in 2018. Cathy’s expertise in commercial property leases has been crucial in supporting Stuart’s decisions. He acknowledges that ‘she has stopped us making a few bad decisions.’

He explained: “One that springs to mind was a commercial premises in Doncaster. The building needed quite a lot of work just to meet Building Regulations. Cathy’s straight-talking advice helped us come to our senses and walk away from it.”
